Alkalinity and Oxygen go hand in hand.† Being healthy, alive, and burning food for energy includes the constant process of billions of tiny cells making chemical reactions that continually generate waste acids in our bodies. The constant process of cleaning the waste acids out as fast as we make them is paramount to good health. Our bodies must maintain the proper balance between being alkaline or acid for us to be alive. This balance is measured on a scale called pH. This scale and measurement spans from a low of 1 - being very acid Ė through neutral at 7, to a high of 14 which is extremely alkaline. A pH value below 7 is considered acid, and above 7 alkaline. Maintaining a slightly alkaline pH condition overall is crucial for having good health. If your body's pH is not balanced, you cannot effectively assimilate vitamins, minerals, supplements, and food. Your body pH affects everything. I have been teaching worldwide about this importance of bodily pH being a major factor and measurable reflection of our health for 17 years.
The Current Focus On pH Overlooks the Real Cause
Currently, the modern awareness of the importance of a slightly alkaline pH is reflected in the existence of many ads talking about it. Machines and supplements are being touted that all claim to alkalinize the body. This current awareness and importance of proper pH, and therefore most writings and discussions, focus solely on regulating various types of food or water intake as the way to adjust the overall body pH. They simply ignore the most vital nutrient that the body is constantly using to adjust its own pH, as needed, in each vital area. The writers do not make the proper connections in their minds, so they miss the most important factor in creating proper pH.
Body Acidity Breeds Disease
It is widely accepted scientifically that a body with too many accumulated waste toxins and acids inside it is unhealthy. A readily seen - and felt - example of this fact is when we become sore after exercise. This soreness is entirely due to the over-accumulation of lactic acid in our muscles. Itís just waiting to be removed. In a few days the body marshals its resources and buffers the lactic acid - and the soreness goes away. Cancer also causes an over-accumulation of lactic acid around the cancer site that causes other nearby cells to become aberrated. Many people have removed this cascade of advancing acid-fueled cancers by restoring the normal acid/alkalizing balance.
At the cellular level, a continuous buildup of various waste acids all over the body creates what is referred to as a chronically acidic body pH. This system-wide low pH over-acidic condition allows the proliferation of harmful microbes and aberrant cells that begin to grow uncontrollably. Microbes and cancer flourish in acidic conditions. Maintaining a healthy slightly alkaline body terrain creates an environment wherein harmful microbes and lactic acid-caused aberrant cells simply canít exist. Before WWII doctors were openly aware of this. The shortened and rushed training of doctors for the war effort created the situation of unknowing that we have today. Thankfully, this information is finally reaching the awareness of the general public again.
Which pH is Correct?
Our bodies must maintain a narrow range of correct pH in the blood at any cost. In fact, there is not just one, but various pH scale acid/alkaline measurements considered normal and healthy:

Our bodies will rob nutrients or alter body compounds such as bicarbonate, amino acids, albumin, globulin, & hemoglobin all over the body to maintain the correct acid/alkaline balances. Unfortunately, most writers only concentrate on these secondary compounds as de-acidifiers and continually miss the #1 most important de-acidifier. This is probably because it is too big, too all-encompassing, too taken for granted.
The Number 1 Way the Body Gets Rid of Acids? Oxygen!
No wastes or toxins can leave the body without first being combined with oxygen. This is the big truth that they all miss. They are narrowly focusing in on detail, and missing the BIG picture. Because of many TV ads, people recently went nuts buying up Coral Calcium, the #2 most important acid buffer, but they all missed the #1 way the body gets rid of waste acids: by using OXYGEN! The calcium eaters got great results because the body must fall back on its mineral and calcium reserves to survive when there isnít enough oxygen. What would have been the results if they all had plenty of the #1 de-acidifier, OXYGEN, instead?†† Isnít it obvious that if the body can get rid of enough acid wastes by having plenty of oxygen around to oxidize, buffer, neutralize, and burn the acids up, then wonít the body naturally become more alkaline?
As I wrote in my book Flood Your Body With Oxygen, Therapy for Our Polluted World: To prevent being acidosis-toxicity overwhelmed, the body attempts to neutralize its poisonous acids continuously building up in order to maintain a healthy slightly-alkaline pH. Alkali solutions (pH over 7.0) tend to absorb oxygen, while acids (pH under 7.0) tend to expel oxygen. For example, a mild alkali can absorb over 100 times as much oxygen as a mild acid. More acid means a poorly functioning immune system with less oxygen in the blood, and therefore in your body.† Compare blood with a pH value of 7.45 to blood with a pH value of 7.30, only a difference of 15 hundredths of a pH number.† The blood only 15 hundredths higher contains 64.9% more excess oxygen.† That's the major reason why eating healthy to stay slightly alkaline works. Itís a two-way street, the more acid in the body - the less ability the body fluids have to absorb oxygen. The classic spiral down into disease. The more oxygen in the body - the more ability its fluids have to absorb oxygen. The upward spiral of health.
The first thing the body uses to fight acidity is getting more oxygen the only way it knows how, through breathing harder so it can push more CO2 out of the lungs. This makes room for, and puts more oxygen in the blood. We now have great supplemental ways to make the same things happen.
Everyone complains they need more energy. How many people get winded and pant easily with a minimum of effort expended? Thatís a low oxygen and over-acid condition plainly expressing itself when there isnít enough oxygen, minerals (especially sulfur/MSM), and water around.
In low-oxygen cellular environments excess carbon dioxide (carbonic acid) and lactic acid collect, so the body oxygen and intra-cellular amino acids are used up trying to buffer these acids. Lymph and saliva try to neutralize and dilute the acids, but they each thicken more as we dehydrate Ė thereby lowering their efficiency.
Next, your high pH electrolytes; calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium are used up binding salt acids, and then your skin, urinary tract, colon and respiratory system overload trying to filter them out. Then blood plasma changes while loading with bicarbonate in an attempt to neutralize the increasing acidity. If the low oxygen and low minerals and low water conditions persist - and no change in oxygen levels, diet, or elimination are forthcoming - then the bones, teeth, joints and muscles will be robbed of their calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium reserves. This causes severe mineral deficiency. And when all this fails because the acidic mucoid sludge continues to block everything and pile up - then the body can no longer neutralize the acids. In a final attempt to survive, the body pushes the excess acids and toxins away from the core and out to be stored in the peripheral areas of the skin and extremities.
